Marked Course

Park Farm Llangattock is once again the perfect starting point for this - the third in our Beast series. Leaving the field you head via a small but steep lane which leads onto a small section of the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal. Minutes later you will be on the trail through fields and ancient walkways, before climbing to the top of the Llangattock Escarpment. Views here are out of this world! the climb will be worth it that we promise. The Beautiful Black Mountains, Sugar Loaf and The Brecon Beacons will wow you! Heading south towards the edge of the mountain your aim is to meet the great and worthy Lonely Shepherd, a photo with this incredible stone is a must. Steeped in history and Welsh Folk tales. Leaving him to his sheep you will then head over open moorland, with the Clydach Gorge and its hidden waterfalls on the opposite valley, hosting signs of its long lost industrial industry, many features do still remain.

The open moorland will be more technical than strenuous but have no doubt they will challenge even the best! Heading across the moors you will be on the mountain trails heading overland towards the Llangattock Escarpment with the famous caves below.  Running above the caves system on the Craig y Cilau you once again will be overwhelmed by the spectacular views. Descending Mynydd Llangattock you enter into a beautiful valley of natural beauty hosting rivers and an abundance of wildlife and birds. Crossing the Valley you will be mesmerized by its beauty. Your final destination will take you into ancient woods and streams before facing the infamous incline descent, technical and tricky but fast!  Leaving the trails behind you rejoin the canal over a stone staircase that brings you back onto the small but beautiful section of the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal before you take your last trail into a wonderful forest arch and claim victory against the Beast.

The Beast of Llangattock will attract four distances. The 10-mile event will be repeated for the 20-mile event, and the 32 mile Ultra. Two well-stocked energy zones will be on the route, plus HQ, giving the 20- and 32-mile contenders three such zones on each loop. The 10 KM route will have one light refreshment zone.
